Sixteen years I wandered the world,
Drink’n and sing’n and tell’n my tales.
So, gather young fellows round my fire this night,
For the tale I shall tell is the one of my life.
I was born one stormy night,
My mother a wench and my father a knight.
Wrapped me in linen and gave me away,
To a wandering Bard, a teller of tales.
Chorus:
I was singing before I could walk,
Taught me his tales through his brilliant talk.
And so I became a Bard just as he,
Telling the tales of great victories.
Wander did I ’til I was eight,
Met an old woman, loved us so great.
Took us in, so we told her the tale,
Of a lovely young lass an’ her ‘fection for ale.
So stayed us many a year,
I was soon sixteen and had I no care.
But I fear that old lady had soon passed away,
So I took my ole tales and I went my own way.
Chorus
Told many a story with lots of ale,
Had many a fight which I ne’er prevail.
Had grand adventures, my heart was alight,
All was to change one full mooned night.
So I walked through the forest one night,
Met a young lass, with eyes so bright.
Beauteous lady, so full of life,
Took her that night to be my wife.
Chorus
(Flute)
Now we live in a cottage, wife, child and me.
Still I tell tales of grand victories.
But there be one story, I still must reveal,
So fetch me some ale, lad, while I tell the tale.
Sixteen years I wandered the world,
Drink’n and sing’n and tell’n my tales.
So gather young fellows round the fire this night,
For the tale I shall tell is the one of my life.
